Anthropic Adds Spend Caps to Claude Enterprise: Admins Can Set Limits at the Org, Team, and Individual Levels

On July 2, Anthropic rolled out new usage analytics and cost controls for Claude Enterprise: three-tier spend caps, overspend alerts at 75% and 90%, per-model defaults and permissions, and an Analytics API that plugs into tools like Datadog.

What This Update Gives Admins

On July 2, Anthropic announced a batch of admin features for Claude Enterprise on its official blog: spend caps can be set at three levels—organization, team (group), and individual. When an org-level limit reaches 75% and 90%, admins get an alert, leaving time to raise the allowance so employees aren't cut off midway through their work. On the model side, admins can specify the default and available models for chat, Cowork, and Claude Code, so everyday tasks don't have to run on the most expensive tier by default.

Cost Data Can Finally Feed Into Finance's Systems

The new analytics panel shows usage and cost by team and individual, with output listed right alongside—how many artifacts were created, how many files were edited, which skills and connectors were called. That data is also exposed through an Analytics API, so it can plug into enterprise cost tools companies already use, like Datadog Cloud Cost Management and CloudZero; bulk limit management runs through the Admin API via scripts.

From "Use More" to "Use With Guardrails"

This feature set is aimed at the "tokenmaxxing" problem that made waves in the first half of the year—companies opened up agent usage and burned through their budgets in a few months. The press previously reported the example of Uber burning through its entire annual AI budget in four months. As AI spending becomes a real cost line for companies, spend governance is moving out of the finance department's spreadsheets and into the product itself—which may be the lesson every enterprise AI product has to learn next.
